CICBC Mission
The mission of the Central Illinois Community Blood Center is to provide the highest quality blood and related services to meet the needs of the communities we serve.

CICBC Values
We believe in core values that aid us in serving our communities and providing the life-saving blood used in surgeries, traumas, cancer treatments and treatment of a wide variety of diseases.
Partners – We are committed to providing a high quality of dependable service to the 19 hospitals in our service area to ensure that all types of blood and blood products are available every day and when special needs arise.
Community – We are dedicated to helping protect our communities through our public awareness and education programs that call attention to the importance of blood donations and to meet emergency blood demands.
Blood Donors – We appreciate and thank the many thousands of people who literally give a part of themselves to save the lives of others through their donation of blood. The lives blood donors save could be their own, those of their family members or citizens from your community.
Blood Recipients – We are proud of the fact that we serve humanity by collecting the blood and blood products that make the difference between life and death to thousands of citizens each year. Our staff and blood donors from our area perform an equally important job of saving lives, as do police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel. All are heroes. All are dedicated to public service and preserving life.
Quality – Our center is committed to following the highest possible standards to ensure a safe blood supply through screening, testing and the many requirements of the U. S. Food & Drug Administration.
Dependability – We are proud of the fact that we service our member hospitals every day of the year and at all hours of the day or night to provide the blood they need to save lives. We have never had a hospital postpone a surgery due to a shortage of red cells or plasma due to our network of dedicated staff and, above all, our blood donors who assist on a regular basis.
Service – We are focused on giving the highest level of service to the hospitals by providing their blood needs, delivery schedules, blood drives, community relations and technical support.

What We Do
The CICBC is a not-for-profit organization originally formed in 1971 by St. John’s Hospital and Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois to provide the blood needs of their hospitals, and now 19 hospitals in central and southwestern Illinois. This involves blood collections (offices in Springfield and Edwardsville, Illinois) and through the hundreds of Bloodmobile drives held throughout the area. Donor recruiters work with area organizations to schedule blood drives and to communicate with existing blood donors to meet routine blood needs through regular blood donations. Blood drive coordinators are special people who volunteer their time in their organization or community to work with CICBC staff to sign up blood donors and coordinate the blood drives. Public relations staff works with donor recruiters, community leaders, news media, partner hospitals, blood donors, blood drive sponsors and others to inform and educate about the need to donate blood. Phlebotomists are highly trained professionals who screen blood donors, provide mini-physicals and take blood donations. The actual time in the chair to donate blood is 5-10 minutes. Lab specialists process the blood for 14 tests conducted by a licensed laboratory to check for diseases and viruses to ensure a safe and reliable blood supply. Drivers supply hospitals with blood seven days a week, take blood samples from every unit of blood drawn to our testing lab and provide logistical support for the Bloodmobile and blood drives at fixed sites. Quality Assurance staff carefully review documents, bar coded blood records and ensure compliance with Federal requirements. In all cases, blood donors can rest assured that their information is kept confidential and is never shared with an employer or anyone outside the related medical profession.
